Více než 2 století byl Petrohrad hlavním městem Ruska, sídlem carské rodiny. Vidělo povstání, revoluce a strašná léta Druhé světové války. Bohatá historie zanechala mnohé stopy v ulicích a na náměstích města a dává tak turistům možnost ji zažít znovu. Petrohrad je velmi populární pro návštěvníky z celého světa především v létě. Nejdříve si zajděte na Palácové náměstí. Uprostřed náměstí se nachází obrovský žulový sloup s andělem na vrcholu. Říká se mu Alexandrův sloup a lidé věří, že stráží/ochraňuje Petrohrad. Ovšem skutečným důvodem Vašeho příchodu sem je Zimní palác hostící Ermitáž. Toto slavné muzeum uchovává brilantní sbírku světových mistrovských děl – práce umělců jakými byli Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo a mnozí další. Nedaleko Palácového náměstí se nalézá budova Admirality. Vzhlédnete-li k vrcholu budovy, uvidíte malý zlatý koráb. Ten je dalším symbolem města připomínající fakt, že Petrohrad je důležitým námořním přístavem. Na nábřeží Něvy můžete spatřit památník Petra velikého, zakladatele Petrohradu. Památníku se také říká Bronzový jezdec, název vytvořený Alexandrem Puškinem ve stejnojmenné básni. V Petrohradu můžete vidět a navštívit mnohé úžasné kostely. Isakijevský chrám, Chrám spasitele v krvi, Kazaňský chrám jsou jedny z nejznámějších, avšak uvidíte jich mnohem více na svých procházkách městem. Jinou zajímavou památkou v Petrohradu je Petropavlovská pevnost, místo, kde město vzalo svůj počátek. V areálu pevnosti naleznete chrám Svatého Petra a Pavla a Muzeum historie města.

St Petersburg is one of the biggest and most beautiful Russian cities. It was founded in the beginning of the 18^th century by Peter the Great. The city was meant to be a “window to Europe” protecting the country and representing Russia to the West. For over two centuries St Petersburg was the capital of Russia, the residence of the royal family. It saw uprisings, Revolutions, and the terrible years of the Second World War. A rich history has left many traces in the streets and squares of the city, giving tourists a chance to feel it all. St Petersburg is very popular with visitors from all over the world, especially in summer. The magical time of White Nights makes you feel like you are in a fairy tale.

Go to Palace square first. In the centre of the square there is a huge granite column with an angel on top. It’s called the Alexander Column and the angel is believed to guard St Petersburg. But the true reason you came here is for the Winter Palace that hosts the Hermitage museum. This famous museum holds a brilliant collection of the world masterpieces – the works of artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and many others. Not far away from Palace square you can find the Admiralty building. If you look at the top of the building, you’ll see a small golden ship. It is another symbol of the city reminding us of the significance of St Petersburg as a sea port. At the bank of the Neva you can see a monument of Peter the Great, the founder of St Petersburg. This monument is often called the Bronze Horseman, a name coined by Alexander Pushkin in his poem of the same name. In St Petersburg you can see and visit many amazing churches. St Isaac’s Cathedral, the Church of Our Saviour on the Spilt Blood and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan are just among the most well-known ones, but you’ll see many more as you walk around the city. Another interesting location in St Petersburg is the Peter and Paul Fortress, the place where the city began. On its territory you’ll find the Peter and Paul Cathedral and the Museum of St Petersburg History.
